Epik Empire Still SOLD OUT!

Finally, an update on the availability of the Epik Empire. According to Epik, the Empire won’t be available until at least June 2010. This will be a record for Epik, four months without having any product to sell. And they are still in business? As you can see, one of the drawbacks of Internet direct subwoofer manufacturers is the lack of inventory, although some handle this better than others.For a proven track record of availablility and quality, you are better of buying a product from Polk or Velodyne.

Epik Empire Sold Out!

Two months after the introduction of the Epik Empire subwoofer, the product has sold out. Epik has indicated on their blog that the item will be out of stock for a few months. Epik is still taking orders for the Empire, but promises to have more in stock soon.

AV123 Mark Schifter Indicted by Grand Jury on Five Counts

Thinking of purchasing an MFW-15 subwoofer or Rockets from AV123? Think again. Founder and president of AV123 and Perpetual Technologies, Mark L. Schifter was indicted by a Colorado Grand Jury for raising thousands of dollars for charities and keeping the bulk of the money for himself. Donators were tricked into believing the money would go to worthwhile charities or people with serious or grave illnesses. Schifter persuaded over 700 individuals to contribute more than $180,000. Of the $180K, Schifter retained over $150,000 for himself.

Epik Conquest

The Epik Conquest, which was introduced in Late 2007, has been discontinued. The Conquest was the long-lived monster of deep, loud bass. For some unknown reason, Epik has decided to discontinue this high-performance subwoofer, for smaller, cheaper subwoofers. Epik Empire Review

Epik has reduced its offerings to a single black subwoofer. Unlike previous Epik subwoofers, the Empire is a slightly more compact design with an additional subwoofer driver. Equipped with dual-opposed 15″ subwoofer drivers and a 600W RMS amplifier, Epik claims the Empire will produce a frequency response of 20-300 Hz +/-3.5 dB anechoic, and True 15 Hz or lower in-room extension. Although a forum member of a popular audio forum has confirmed the frequency response claims, Epik itself has not yet published an official anechoic frequency response graph on their company website.

Buyer beware. Even if Epik does demonstrate an anechoic bottom end of 20hz -3.5 dB, sealed subwoofers have a limitation in the bottom end of compression and high low-end distortion. Although a sealed subwoofer is flat to 20hz, as it plays louder and louder it becomes more difficult to produce very low frequencies.
